Jessica Nicole Batts was born on Wednesday, April 21st 1993. She was the pride of her parents and brothers as she grew from an always smiling infant into a beautiful, always smiling young woman.
As a toddler, she learned to speak and made complete sentences almost immediately; her vocabulary was well beyond her peers who were only just learning sentences. This was only the beginning and served to let everyone around her know that this kid was one to watch. She became an artist, a jewelry maker, entrepreneur, gymnast, and fencer, among many other things. Above all, she became a fierce, vibrant woman.
Her dedication to those around her, especially her family, was humbling. Regardless of her own struggles, she seemed to innately know when people were struggling, and would reach out to check on them often.
Beyond that, she had the sheer determination to get what she wanted out of life, never mind the roadblocks. She was working toward becoming a paralegal, with the ultimate goal of becoming an attorney. In the words of her employer, "I did not have one scintilla of doubt that she would experience success because I knew that she would not have it any other way."
This determination and dedication were why she was leaving work in the late evening of Friday, March 20th. Jessica was riding her motorcycle home, in full safety gear as always, when a driver disregarded a red light and struck and killed her. She was almost 22 years old.
We mourn the loss of such a great person, but also celebrate her life. She lived it to the fullest, and in our hearts reminds us to do the same.
Her family has received an outpouring of love from family and friends who wanted to help. This is to help them with final expenses and her funeral after such a sudden accident.
