Help the Homeless Family of 7

Donation protected
For those of you who don't know, on Sunday July 27th, while driving home I saw this homeless family of 7 in the Sports Arena/ Point Loma area. The parents were clearly distressed and struggling to keep their family together. As soon as I realized the parents  (with 5 kids) had a young infant, I felt compelled to stop and see how I could help. Upon meeting the mother, she informed me that her youngest child (an 11mo old infant - who looked more like a 5mo old) needed Enfamil (baby formula). The parents continued to explain that their priority was to keep the children fed and safe, while trying to find shelter for the upcoming night, as the local shelters are at capacity (with a waitlist in place).  Without access to local resources (due to shelters being full) the parents dedicate their days to find enough money for a motel room (or risk sleeping on the streets with their 5 children (under the age of 15)).

It is clear that the parents are not using their children to get money for drugs / alcohol and that they are truly down and out on their luck and trying their very best. Each of the 5 kids were severly malnourished - and looksignificantly younger than their age. Nevertheless, the children seem to be in good spirits.

After meeting the family, I've researched resources - including reaching out to 211 as well as local transitional housing facilities. Unfortunately, the wait time is approximately 3 months.  It is my personal goal to get the family onto the wait list and into transitional housing, but, in the mean time, I need to know they have a safe place to sleep every night.

I truly appreciate all the food/ clothing donations thus far. As I work on picking up and delivering the donations, I feel that we need to help raise funds to provide them with adequate shelter during this trying time. I don't plan on giving them cash or access to the funds, but will personally tend to the payment of hotel/ food with the funds raised.  Please keep in mind that the family has never once asked me for anything and are beyond grateful to know that strangers (like you and I) are willing to help.

No donation is too small, as every dollar will greatly help reach out goal. In the event you are not able to make a monetary donation, I am still accepting in kind donations - email me for a list of items.

Please feel free to share this page with those near and far as I'd like to help them get back on their feet.

Thank you in advance for your compassion!
