Lending A Hand In Afghanistan

My story of how I came to be doing this is on The Story Video - Please watch.

Lending a Hand in Afghanistan
           (see video's paragraph 4)

Afghanistan has been at war for decades.  I recently learned that while there is medical attention there, and while the doctors are keeping the injured alive, (and all too often fitting them with various prosthetics), there is very little care for all the terrible traumatization they endure in these bomb blasts and shootings.

I found myself getting involved in this situation, came to meet the wonderful people of The Lamia Afghan Foundation.  Being a therapist I was able to make some connections  and organically a  program to train some Afghan doctors in a specialized trauma therapy - EMDR has come together.  Now we need some funds.

Specificly, I am are seeking to raise money for the airfare to get them to the training and back. (the EMDR people are very graciously providing the training for free).  The funds will also form a little nest egg for further trainings and to support the provision of this much needed trauma therapy in a war torn country that is essentially without it.

There is a second video which has me reading the Poem that started this all.

So what is this fund drive -

It is to support doctors from Kabul to travel to India for a training in EMDR so that treatment for trauma can commence in this war torn country.   It is being undertaken by the Lamia Afghan Foundation and I have participated in putting together some of the necessary connections, and in raising this money to add this to the programs they are already involved in there.

Who am I? -  I am an individual who took up an interest in the cause after a bombing there on May 31st of this year.  I made a donation to help and then noticed in pictures I saw how traumatized the people getting medical treatment looked.  I asked about it and made some connections that led to this project.

So I set up this campaign – the money goes directly to the Lamia Afghan Foundation.  It is run by an American couple – John and Jan Bradley of Nashville TN.  John is a retired Lt. General who served in Afghanistan and was moved by what he saw and he and his wife Jan decided to begin this work.  John is the beneficiary for this campaign and will receive the money from this drive here in the US and will transfer it over to the Lamia Afghan Foundation on the ground in Kabul who will purchase the airline tickets.

Whatever remains will remain in the Lamia account and be earmarked for further development of this trauma treatment program.
