<div>Zwracam się do Was z ogromną prośbą o pomoc dla moich bliskich przyjaciół, Grzegorza i Joli, którzy od miesięcy toczą heroiczną, cichą walkę o życie.

<div>Mąż Joli cierpi na skrajną niewydolność wątroby której towarzyszy rzadkie i niezwykle groźne powikłanie, zespół wątrobowo-płucny (HPS). Schorzenie to powoduje patologiczne rozszerzenie naczyń krwionośnych w płucach, przez co krew przepływa przez nie zbyt szybko i nienaturalnymi kanałami, uniemożliwiając prawidłową wymianę gazową. W rezultacie, mimo pracy płuc krew nie jest w stanie pobrać odpowiedniej ilości tlenu i trafia do organizmu skrajnie niedotleniona. Wydolność układu krążeniowo-oddechowego Grzesia jest w fatalnym stanie, również z uwagi na obecność pęcherzyków powietrza w lewej komorze serca. Przez to krytyczne niedotlenienie, jego serce musi bić o wiele szybciej pracując ponad siły ,aby nadążyć z rozprowadzaniem resztek tlenu po organizmie. Jest to proces nieodwracalny za pomocą leków, a jedyną metodą na przywrócenie prawidłowego natlenienia krwi i uratowanie mu życia jest pilna transplantacja wątroby, która usunie przyczynę tego stanu.

<div>Ze względu na niezwykle wysoki stopień skomplikowania tej operacji, lekarze w Dublinie nie podjęli się tak ryzykownego zabiegu. Pojawiło się jednak zielone światło ze światowej sławy kliniki King's College Hospital w Londynie.

<div>Teraz trwa najważniejszy wyścig z czasem. Grzegorz został przetransferowany do londyńskiego szpitala, gdzie przeszedł niezwykle szeroki i szczegółowy zakres badań na miejscu. Po tak dogłębnej analizie jego stanu zdrowia, tamtejsi lekarze zdecydowali się podjąć tego ogromnego wyzwania i zakwalifikowali go medycznie do przeszczepu ratującego życie. Obecnie Grzesiu przebywa w domu,gdzie oczekuje na ponowny transport medyczny do Londynu na przeszczep.

<div>Koszty z jakimi muszą się teraz mierzyć są porażające. Ponieważ Grzesiu korzysta z tlenoterapii w domu, pracujące bez przerwy koncentratory generują ogromne, trudne do udźwignięcia rachunki za prąd. Do tego dochodzą wydatki, które są dopiero przed nimi, czyli koszty związane z ponownym wylotem i pobytem Joli w Londynie, aby mogła być blisko męża kiedy on będzie w szpitalu. Codzienne utrzymanie się tam na miejscu w tym okresie całkowicie przekracza ich możliwości finansowe. Rekonwalescencja po tak specyficznym przeszczepie jest w przypadku chorych na HPS procesem o wiele bardziej długotrwałym i wymagającym. Oni muszą teraz skupić się wyłącznie na walce o zdrowie. My możemy zdjąć z ich barków ten potwornie paraliżujący strach o finanse w tym trudnym czasie.

<div>I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for help for my close friends, Greg and Jola, who have been fighting a heroic, silent battle for life for months.

<div>Jola's husband suffers from end-stage liver failure accompanied by a rare and extremely dangerous complication, Hepatopulmonary Syndrome (HPS). 
</div>
<div>This condition causes pathological dilation of the blood vessels within the lungs, meaning blood flows through them too rapidly and via abnormal channels disrupting proper gas exchange. As a result, despite the lungs' efforts blood cannot absorb a sufficient amount of oxygen and enters the body severely deoxygenated.

<div>Greg cardiopulmonary function is in a terrible state, also due to the presence of air bubbles in the left ventricle of his heart. Because of this critical lack of oxygen his heart has to beat much faster working under extreme strain just to keep up with distributing what little oxygen is left in his body. This process cannot be reversed with medication, and the only method to restore proper blood oxygenation and save his life is an urgent liver transplant, which will eliminate the underlying cause of this condition.

<div>In his case, it is already a very advanced state. This disease is literally taking his breath away. He must be connected to oxygen 24 hours a day at a massive flow rate of 15 liters per minute, simply to help him breathe. Every day is a race against time, and his only salvation and his only chance to live normally again and enjoy everyday life is a transplant.

<div>Due to the extremely high complexity of this operation doctors in Dublin did not undertake such a risky procedure. However, a green light has appeared from the world-renowned King's College Hospital in London.

<div>Now, the most critical race against time is underway. Greg was transferred to the London hospital where he underwent a highly comprehensive and detailed range of tests on-site. Following this in-depth analysis of his health condition the medical team there decided to take on this enormous challenge and medically qualified him for the life-saving transplant. Greg is currently back at home where he is waiting for the medical transport back to London for the transplant.

<div>The costs they are facing right now are staggering. Because Greg uses oxygen therapy at home, the continuously running oxygen concentrators generate massive, overwhelming electricity bills. On top of that, there are expenses which are still ahead of them, specifically the costs related to traveling back and Jola’s stay in London so she can be close to her husband while he is in the hospital. Staying there daily during this period completely exceeds their financial means. Recovery after such a specific transplant is a much more prolonged and demanding process for HPS patients. The regeneration of the entire body can take a long time, and after a successful transplant and their return to Ireland another marathon awaits them, which is frequent travel from Limerick to the clinic in Dublin for regular check-ups.

Jola and her husband would never ask for this help themselves which is why I am doing it on their behalf. They need to focus solely on the fight for his health right now. We can lift this terribly paralyzing fear of finances off their shoulders during this incredibly difficult time.
