Update on 6/24/16
I have increased the goal by another $1,500 since the initial amount gave us insufficient time to find temporary housing and is already consumed by food and 13 days of stay at a budget motel. At this stage, I'm working actively with Ms. Welch to find a room to rent in Alameda County.  Along with her social security, this additional amount will buy shelter at a motel for about 2-3 weeks, by which time, I am hopeful she will find housing. She is desperately trying to avoid having to return to living on the streets, so please continue to share this campaign with your friends and family.

I am a freshman at Mission San Jose High School (MSJHS) in Fremont, CA.  A couple of months ago, I read this article about a homeless person in the San Jose Mercury News that touched my heart.  I was confused and shocked to learn that a person who worked at tech companies such as Apple and HP, for almost four decades would end up homeless.  When I read that she attended the same school as I did, it left me with no choice, but to contact the jounalist and try to reach her.

I met Ms Welch three times with my dad to learn about her situation.  As far as we can tell, she is genuinely homeless and needs support from the community.

In Ms. Welch's case, she suffered a stroke in January 2015 and subsequently became homeless in May 2015.  My mom made me realize that for many people, homelessness is just a paycheck away.

I met her for the first time, on Easter Sunday. At that time, she was staying at a motel for about four weeks, paid for by an extended family member who read the same article in the Mercury News, and decided to assist her.  Since then, she was back living on the streets for several weeks before a Catholic church in Fremont offered her three days of stay at a motel. That was when I met her the second time to learn more about her story. She was back on the streets for a couple of days and was very fortunate to get a call from the Abode homeless shelter in Fremont that signed her up for the 60 day program. As of May 13th 2016, she has one month remaining after which, she will be back on the streets.

With your generous donation, we can together help her with temporary accomodation for about three months. Assuming a $1,000 monthly rent, I am raising half of the $3,000 she will need. Ms Welch will contribute 50% of the rent through her monthly social security payment.

She is continuing her pursuit of low income housing, but her prospects look very dim due to very lengthy waitlist times. If we can get her accomodation for the next three to four months, it will give me more time to figure out a longer term plan. If you donate, I will give you a small gift in return. Depending on your donation, I can put your name in the credits section of an educational mobile game or app that I build, or even teach you how to build your own mobile app.

She needs the funds by mid June to ensure she does not have to return to the streets.

I am thankful in advance for your generous donation and will keep you updated on how the money was spent and provide updates on Ms. Welch's condition.

Let's make it happen!
