If you know the Luceros, then you probably know that in 2019, their music filled the air all around Chicago. Their amazing family band, Cielito Lindo (which means Beautiful Heaven, and is made up of Juan all seven of the kids) was as busy as it’s ever been, playing weddings, quinceañeras, engagements, barbecues and sporting events. The year was capped off with an appearance on the show, “America's Most Musical Family ,” where they wooed viewers nationally. In early 2020, their schedules were booked and the family was looking forward to their best year yet. The possibility of being able to start saving for a home of their own in our community was within reach.
Then, March came. COVID-19 hit the Luceros especially hard. The family band doubles as the family business, and the bulk of their income comes from live performances. As we all know, those all but stopped. Even as the family continues to work hard, the income coming in barely covers their food and utilities.
After generously spreading joy and lifting people up through their music for years, now, the family—which has been likened to the von Trapps—is left needing help.
The Luceros are facing eviction at the end of this month, after falling behind six months on their rent. If evicted, nine people will be without a home. We can't stand by and let this happen to this remarkable family. Through our years of friendship, I can honestly say that these are the nicest people you will ever meet. The kids are so polite, so smart and so hardworking. The parents are kind, generous, talented and, right now, uncertain about what’s next.
Part of the family’s identity has always been giving back to the community. I’m asking, on their behalf, for the community to give what they can to this family.
Any money you’re able to give will be an enormous help. It will go toward covering the Lucero’s past-due rent, and it will help them pay the rent going forward until they can start performing again.
Thank you for anything you can spare during this tough time. I can say without a doubt that as soon as they can perform again, the Luceros will thank you, too, through their incredible music.
