It’s the “Dress to Get Laid” Party: Jackie is dressed as a sexy trash bag aka looking good, and ready to hit on her sexy male dancer friend, so he will LOVE her so hard he can’t even feel his own body! Is Jackie destined to be another tragic tale about the perils of hookup culture or will be she be the GF of an actual DANCE, who is hot?
This show was inspired by the playwright’s experience at Bennington College and sex-themed parties, aspiring alt artists, spoon sculptures, tortured romance, hookups and trying very very very hard.
MEET THE TEAM:
Catherine Weingarten (Playwright) is a Brooklyn based playwright and comedian. She has received commissions from Piper Theater Productions and Bloomsburg University, and has developed plays with Less Than Rent and PlayGround Experiment. Her summer camp play Are You Ready to Get PAMPERED!? was part of Dixon Place’s Bingo Lounge and had a reading at 59E59 with Less Than Rent. Her play A Roller Rink Temptation appeared at the NOLA Fringe and received a production in May 2018 with The Dare Tactic, and Karate Hottie was a semi-finalist for ATHE Excellence in Playwriting Award. She is the recipient of the Scott McPherson Award. BA: Bennington College. MFA: Ohio University. @sarahkaneissexy
Ben Stockman (Director) is a half-Syrian half-Jewish fully-organic NYC-based director and recent graduate of Ohio University's MFA Directing program. He comes from southern Vermont, and began his directing career at the ever-so-tender age of 14 at the New England Youth Theatre in Brattleboro. In NYC he has helped develop new plays with the Dirty Blondes, West of 10th theater and Sitting Shotgun. He has also done acting, writing, puppetry, podcasting, nude modeling, stage management, dramaturgy, scantily-clad modeling, music production, lighting design, and clothed modeling.
Candy 4 Breakfast makes unapologetically girly comedy for the theater. We seek to redefine the concept of “trashy” art into something radically accessible and shamelessly fun! We believe that theater doesn’t need to be highbrow, preachy, or mansplain-y to be nourishing and worthwhile. Watching our plays is like eating three extra fat chocolate bars at 8 AM: it may not be something you brag about later, but in the moment it makes you feel like you’re indulging the secret, appalling brat you always knew was hiding somewhere deep down in your soul.
