My Mom Sharon was diagnosed with COPD about 8 years ago. This seriously affected her mobility and every day life. She has to be on oxygen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When she leaves her house she has to drag a heavy oxygen tank with her, everywhere she goes. This is all while she fights for every breath she takes. Small every day tasks became hard obstacles, but mom still went about them as best she could, still taking care of her mom, my grandmother. Then, about 4 years ago, Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. This was after being misdiagnosed for a year. Due to her COPD, the doctors decided chemo would be too hard on her, and diminish what quality of life she has completely. In short, her cancer cannot be cured or treated. She did have some radiation, and rang the bell at the Regina Pasquahospital when she was finished. She got through her biopsies (which are extremely painful) and her radiation, and all the other shitty cards that have been dealt to her (including a diabetes diagnosis!) like a champ. Not long after this my Grandmother was moved to carehome, and a year after that she passed away. Was a sad time for both me and my mother... we were really close with Grandma.
My Mom always has a smile on her face, and a kind word for everyone she passes in public. She is constantly trying to give, whether it’s a new purse she just bought for herself, to me, or giving a panhandler a few dollars from her change purse, or telling someone they have a beautiful smile in passing on the street. Mom always has a kind word and a smile for everyone.
A while back my mom said that before she dies she wants to walk on a beach. I’m not rich, and I don’t have alot of money to spend. However, I would like to give my mom a wonderful weekend getaway. I know some people who own a cabin off Manitou beach, and are Happy to give me a good deal on the place for a weekend in October. I would like to treat my mom to a few of the pampering services at the resort there. I would also like to take my Mom for a walk on the shore. I do plan on saving money by cooking some meals at the cabin, but I would like to be able to treat my mom and dad to a meal at restaurant to enjoy themselves as well, but I need help to do all of this. I would just like to make some memories with my mom while I still can, and give her a vacation free of financial worries. I’m asking for help to give my Mom one of her last wishes. She doesn’t ask for much, and I would like to be able to do this for her.
Thanks in advance for helping me to give my Mom a holiday before it’s too late.
