A Home For Our Rescue

Troy Animal Rescue Project is a foster based rescue that serves rural Alabama. Over the past two years, we have searched for a place for our rescue to call home. A place that we could house dogs and cats when we are unable to find fosters. A place where we could take emergency intakes. A place that would serve as an adoption center and intake facility. Today, we are happy to announce that our dreams have come true and we have found the perfect property to call home! We start+ the process of renovating and moving in on November 1st.

We honestly cannot express to you the joy that we feel. This property will allow us to take in pets that we could not otherwise find foster for, to have adoptions on a daily basis, and will allow for us to have volunteers to help socialize our pets. The possibilities are endless when we combine a solid foster program with the extra capabilities that a brick and mortor building will provide for.

Our new property is situated in Springhill, AL - just a ten minute drive from Troy, AL. The property is a total of 4 acres on a county road between Hwy 167 and Hwy 87.  The property was home to a dog breeder for many years. Unfortunately, her and her husband passed away, leaving the property vacant. Since the previous owner bred dogs, there are several buildings already set up for rescue. The property is set up with a fully functioning double wide, two storage buildings, a building with 18 indoor/outdoor kennels, a building with 10 indoor/outdoor kennels, and a barn. All the outlying buildings are already equipped with electricity and water, which gives us 28 kennels that are ac/heated. Photos are below.

The property and buildings make this location perfect for us! Now we need your help to make our new property home!

One of the major issues for the property is the fencing. Currently the perimeter fence is barbed wire and electric, which is not an option for containing dogs. We need to replace this fencing with field fencing. It is safer and helps to contain pets to the property.  The estimated cost to fence the property is $2,500.

We would also like to convert two of the storage units on the property into catteries for our feline friends. To do this, we would need to outfit both units with insulation and cages. This project is estimated to cost approximately $1,500 and will allow us to house approximately 75 cats and kittens.

Our final project will be the barn. We would like to convert this into a place to hold large dogs. This would require us to concrete the bottom of the building and install galvanized steel kennels. The approximate cost for this project will be $1000.

The total cost of our renovations will be approximately $5,000. Once completely renovated, the property will have the ability to house upwards of 40 dogs and 75 cats. Please help us reach our goal and help pets in rural Alabama have a second chance at life!
