Bobby Rodgers Needs Help

Our son Bobby is 36 years old, bright, hardworking, a huge sports fan and has a great big heart and sense of humor. All was going well until August 2015, after many consultations with dentists and doctors for pain in his jaw, when he was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancerous tumor in his mouth, near the base of his tongue. As a resident of Costa Rica he was eligible to participate in the public health care system, known as “the Caja,” for which he pays premiums. During the fall of 2015 and into early 2016, Bobby received extensive radiation and chemotherapy treatments. The results of which we were informed eradicated the tumor; but, left extensive damage to his mouth. All of his teeth had to be extracted, and to this day (July 2017), he is on a super aggressive pain medication program, including injections, a patch, and pills.
Last week we received the devastating news that the results of his most recent CAT scan showed a new tumor, or a reoccurrence of the first one. The surgical oncologist informed us that, “Neither surgery nor additional radiation are viable options; possibly chemotherapy could be used to extend time. Come back in 4 months.”
Obviously, we can’t give up. Bobby needs your help. His public health care options are all but exhausted with the possible exception of pain management and nutritional assistance. Going forward he will need help with additional imagery to track the tumor, lab tests, medications and tracking examinations; as well as, funding alternative therapies and treatments. Travel expenses might also be included so that we can take him back to the states. We really have no idea what that total amount will wind up to be, but everybody tells us that it will expensive.
Part of the tips for starting this effort says that pictures are important. We don’t have any current good pictures and there aren’t any good pictures depicting this situation. Here is one, however, of Coleman, our Springer Spaniel, welcoming Bobby home from a hospital stay of about a week: they missed each other.
