On the 5th of November 2021 our mother Ma. Donna S. Fortu was rushed to the hospital because she was having trouble breathing and was feeling ill. Upon her admittance to the hospital she had tested for COVID-19 and is currently fighting for her life against the virus at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here in Bacolod City, Philippines. We are humbly asking for $5,000 that will directly go to the medical needs of our mother, especially the out of pocket expenses for procurement of medicines like Tocilizumab, which is worth Php.60,000 or $1,197 per quantity.
Our mother, Ma. Donna S. Fortu is a loving wife, a caring mother to three children, a tender friend who will always be there to lend a hand or a shoulder, she has been a teacher for more over than 34 years, and has strived to be not only a mother to us, but also to all her students. Teaching them not only what's in the book, but also teaching them values that they will carry with them as they succeed in their careers.
Initially, our in-house helper had been sick (coughing, fever, runny nose) and our mother was the one that provided immediate medical attention. After a few days, she was the one not feeling well—experiencing fever, coughing and it got to the point where home remedies and self medication wasn’t enough because she was unable to properly breathe as her oxygen levels were falling to 85%, and every time that she would move its was very difficult for her to breathe. This was very alarming considering that she has hypertension and heart enlargement which made her more susceptible to COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, nevertheless we believe that the vaccine prevented her from feeling worse and having to be intubated.
Currently she is still in the hospital battling the virus. The virus also caused her to have pneumonia, which further threatened her recovery against COVID-19. Due to the pneumonia which was caused by the virus, she needed a medicine called Remdesivir which is worth Php.25,000 or $500. When her pneumonia wasn’t improving, on the 10th of November they prescribed Tocilizumab (2 doses) which we were able to purchase for Php.120,000 or $2,393.
Her condition is gradually improving as she is now able to sit up and do breathing exercises, with her oxygen levels at 94% and using the 10% of the oxygen tank. We are humbly asking for any amount that you may be able to share with us as we have exhausted all of our family funds and are only able to get by with a few donations from our family and friends.
Our family would like to thank you for any help your generous hearts may extend to us. This will directly go to all her medical needs and help our mom fight and win against COVID-19. God Bless!
