Please Let My Mom Come Home

Donation protected
My mother is stuck in a nursing facility because she can no longer walk or use her hands and Social Services will not let her be discharged until a wheelchair lift is built on her house so she can be transported in and out easily. She has been there since she contracted pneumonia about 9 months ago. She is left in the bed you see 24 hours a day. She is in chronic pain. The nursing staff is a skeleton crew who do not have much time to give her sips of water, make her comfy in bed, change her bedding or other 'extras'. She often waits an hour to be fed her lunch while it gets cold sitting next to her as the staff are too busy to do it.

My father misses her desperately; they have been married since 1967. He feeds her supper every night at the facility and spends much of his time sitting next to her during visiting hours. His car is missing a mirror and falling apart and he gets lost easily so it is not ideal to have him driving to see her every day. He has lost a ton of weight and is very lonely.
If you are the curious type, you might be wondering what is wrong with her physically. She has RA, which has mangled her joints and curved her spine so much that it damaged her spinal cord. She cannot receive treatment for it because she is also diabetic, which has also ravaged her blood vessels and causes nerve pain. She worked very hard her whole life, bringing smiles to everyone she met. She is well known around our neighborhood having worked at the local grocery for many years.

We have done a ton of work to try and get her home so she can at least be with her husband for her final years. We have gotten the city to agree to pay for half of the wheelchair lift, so we only need another $3,000 to get it done and get her home!
Please consider helping out with anything you can. It means so much to all of us! Thank you. With gratitude, the Bello family.
