Please Help Neetu

On March 13, 2018, we received the worst phone call any parent/sibling/fiancé/friend can imagine. Neetu was in critical condition and we needed to rush to the hospital immediately. As she was walking to work in downtown Philadelphia, she felt a shortness of breath in her chest. “It’s just my asthma,” she thought, and tried to push through, walking and losing more of her balance with each step.

A good samaritan, who was driving on their way to work, saw Neetu faint and immediately stopped their car to help and call 911. The ambulance arrived right after she collapsed, and while being lifted into the ambulance, Neetu called a friend. She was crying. She was alone. She was terrified. She told her friend that she was going to a hospital, and when she realized she did not know where she would be headed to, she cried on the phone to her friend. Suddenly, everything went dark.

She went into cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped beating;  blood stopped flowing; and her body shut down. It's nothing short of a miracle that she was in the ambulance, as CPR was administered immediately, which temporarily kept her blood flowing. If Neetu was not in an ambulance, she would not be here today.

In the ER, doctors were able to bring our angel back to us with the aid of many machines and medications. She was immediately intubated and placed on a ventilator to help her breath. Additionally, she was placed on a machine to provide her body with oxygenated blood. Once her family arrived to the ER, Neetu was being transferred to the cardiac ICU. Hours later, they were able to find the cause of her cardiac arrest.

Neetu had two major blood clots in her lungs. These clots put so much pressure that her heart stopped. From what doctors have told the family, only 4%-6% of patients survive a blood clot of this size in their lungs.

Currently, Neetu is still intubated within the cardiac ICU and under the care of an amazing team for whom we are forever indebted to. Neetu just recently celebrated her 30th birthday on March 9. She was also in the midst of planning her wedding which is set for July 2018. She met the love of her life, Devin Luqman, while in law school. They have been together for 7 years and were happily planning for the next step of their lives together.

We need your help. Neetu was blessed to receive medical care from one of the best hospitals in the US. However, this quality care comes with a cost. The recovery from this medical event is immense, and much more than we ever anticipated. Neetu will be placed in inpatient care for the foreseeable future. Once she exits, physical therapy, many outpatient follow ups, and other medical care awaits. Doctors have told the family that the total recovery time lies between several months to one year. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her.

Any financial help, prayers and well wishes would truly be a blessing. Thanks everyone.
