Please Help Warren Re-Build His House

2021 Westside of Okanagan Lake Forest Fire / Lot 11 Plan KAP 33459, District Lot 4068

Several years ago, my Father, Warren, purchased a property out near Bouleau Lake to build an off-grid home for his retirement. Dreams of living a simpler life style and limiting the bills to a more sustainable pace became a realistic goal with a fixed disability income. Unfortunately, due to the location of his home it was not able to be insured for fires.

The fire was monitored daily and nightly as it crawled toward his retirement dreams. Firefighting authorities warned of the impending threat and the thought of losing everything weighed heavily with thoughts of what to do. The question of what was worth taking and what couldn't be replaced loomed like the heavy smoke in the valley. Inevitably the call came that he had to leave, items that meant nothing to the fire but meant a lifetime to my Father were packed up in his truck as he left hurriedly trying to not forget anything that couldn't be replaced.

I had a call with him the day after all of this had happened and despite his tragic loss my Father remained upbeat. His response to my question of "How are you doing and what's the plan?" was returned with "They are only material items and everything will be okay". Regardless of the tragedy that just had happened my Father still was able to give me the best answer a father can give "Everything will be okay". He remains optimistic and plans are to rebuild, he has been completely displaced currently relying on friends and family to help where we can.
