It is no fun to ask, with so many in need, but need to ask for your support right now…
We are trying to raise $5,000 to do a couple of key things to help our staff right now. Many of us have worked together since we opened the first (not old :)) eve in Kerrytown in 2003. We are not LIKE family, we are family and have always supported each other over the years and will continue to. These are people who have worked when I injured myself and got a disability and they allowed our business to survive and thrive. They have put up with me being “particular” and “passionate” and are equally committed to creating something special together. They are the hardest working, most creative, caring, talented, resilient and dedicated people you could ever know. They are equally passionate about making every single guest in our community genuinely happy and doing whatever it takes to make that happen. We have been to Dr.’s appointments, the ER, Baby’s births and countless culinary road trips together, near and far…They have come over in the middle of the night when the furnace has gone out, watched each other’s kids, cried on each other’s shoulders, bailed each other out (literally and figuratively), held each other up when we were utterly exhausted and the list goes on and on and on and on and on. It has meant having a support system around all of us and, at this point, we need to reach out to help us extend that to get through this time. Not to keep the restaurant open, but to support individuals who ARE the restaurant and will allow us to continue to be part of this community for years to come.
OUR PLANS/GOALS
1. We are committed to providing a staff family meal each day throughout this time of crises for our staff. Incredibly, we have almost 80 staff members between our two locations in Ann Arbor and Detroit. If we can’t all keep working together right now, we are at least going to provide a good meal for everyone, every day for as long as we possibly can. It will be a way to keep everyone connected and, concretely, to provide a meal to people who depend on their wages/tips to survive. When we cannot get together in safe numbers at the restaurant, we will deliver these meals until or unless we are on lockdown and prohibited from doing so. We are looking for your support to continue to do this for as long as possible. Emmet and Gino Baratta, of Fairway Packing in Detroit, are providing us with an incredible discount on any meat ordered for these staff meals. We are forever grateful to their kindness and partnership. If you have any resources to go towards this, we will accept them with open arms.
2. With the incredibly hard working and talented community of staff that we have, we are going to be launching a new business incorporated as FRITA MOWS, LLC! This will be staff owned and operated and all profits will go to them to provide valuable services for our community throughout the Spring and Summer months when we may be closed. If this turns out to be a great opportunity for them (and for you) and they wish to continue, so much the better! We have a wealth of experience - from landscaping experts - to a Master Gardener - to professional house painters - and we will be pooling our equipment and resources and, I promise, you will get the most detail-oriented, friendly and efficient service around! We will be providing landscaping/gardening/mowing, home repairs and more! Details to follow, but we are raising funds to contribute to the bare bones costs of getting this up and running properly in short order. Underground printing is giving us a generous discount for our FRITA MOWS uniforms and we are open to contributions of any kind. And for anyone who has experience, elbow grease, good work ethic and positive outlook from our restaurant or wider community, and is in a similar situation, is welcome to join forces with us!
Not everyone is eligible for the same kinds of support and, basically, we want to make sure everyone has the means to continue to support themselves and each other. We will accept your support with endless gratitude. Thank you for being part of our community and allowing us to serve each other.
