My wonderful twin aunts, Marsha and Martha, have been living out of one bedroom of their home since the beginning of August due to extensive water and mold damage in many of the walls and floors of their home.
They initially thought their homeowners insurance would cover the expenses, but found out too late that their company was sold to another company and their policy had been dropped without their knowledge. When they tried to get a new policy and even a loan from the local bank to cover these expenses they were turned down for reasons such as hurricane season (they live in Florida), COVID-19 and lack of a current homeowners insurance policy.
My aunts have been given a quote of $36,000 to complete the 4-room job with basic materials. We are asking for help with half of this quote so we can get things going and they can have access to kitchen and laundry facilities as soon as possible.
The company that removed the damaged floors (in the kitchen, laundry room, dining room and living room) also gutted the kitchen and laundry room, and part of the dining room due to finding large amounts of black mold and moisture in the walls. This company packed away almost everything from these four rooms of their home and took their things to a company storage unit. My aunts will not have their belongings again until they have paid the mold remediation company in full.
At this point in their lives, my aunts are both disabled. In December 2017, Marsha had a brain aneurysm burst and cause a massive stroke which left her blind. Martha is diabetic and has severe fibromyalgia. They are women who have always served each other and their family, as well as their community. They have always given to others without asking for anything in return. They are two of the most unselfish and kind ladies you could ever know. To know they are going through this (and have for FIVE months) is absolutely heartbreaking. They have no kitchen, no oven, no way to do laundry, etc. The only running water they have at this time is in the bathroom. Most of their home is now an empty shell.
Please help us to help Marsha and Martha have enough funding to renew what was damaged, and to be able to get their belongings back.
My family and I would be be very grateful for any support that could be extended to help these wonderful ladies in their time of need. Please share their story so they can have the comfort and safety they need and deserve to have in their home and lives. Thank you so much!
