Please Help Us Rebuild After Our Home Fire

My name is K. Hendricks and my husband and I are sharing this with heavy hearts. On October 2nd, our lives were turned upside down. One minute, everything was fine, the next, we were sitting on the curb with our 11-month-old son in our arms, watching our home engulfed in smoke and flames.

It is suspected that some electrical faults caused the fire and the incident is currently under investigation. Adding to our stress, we are facing ongoing challenges with our landlord, which may lead to potential legal costs, making it even harder to secure stability while we try to rebuild our lives.

In just minutes, we lost almost everything. Some of our baby boy’s essentials, like his cot, clothes, nappies and bedding are being replaced thanks to the kindness of family, friends and church doing what they can. However, there is still a much greater need for financial support to help us fully rebuild and get back on our feet.

This tragedy comes on the heels of an incredibly painful time. Earlier this year, both my husband and I suffered bereavements in our families. We had to travel back to Jamaica twice to complete arrangements, which was emotionally exhausting and left us financially stretched. Just as we were beginning to find our footing again, this fire has taken away the little stability we had managed to rebuild.

Our families close by have chipped in to support us as best as they can and we are deeply grateful. But sadly, it simply isn’t enough to cover what we’ve lost and what we need.
