<div>Owner of dozens of for-profit colleges and universities, Career Education Corporation (now Perdoceo) funneled hundreds of millions of federally guaranteed student loan dollars through Brooks Institute, and its other subsidiaries, converting loans into shareholder profits and a lifetime of crushing debt for <a href="https://brooksborrowers.org/data/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">thousands of student loan borrowers</a>.

<div>We take an inside look at how this happened and <a href="https://brooksborrowers.org/history/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">who is responsible</a>. CEC has a formula for purchasing small established schools and turning them into diploma mills as a way to funnel easy money from the federal government. Brooks was one of many.

<div>Goals of the documentary are to show how a system created by shareholders, lobbyists and lawmakers made billions by sinking thousands of folks who just wanted to change their lives through education and to bring back the good name of the school it destroyed and the borrowers left holding the bag.

<div>In 2020, after 49 Attorneys General announced a half billion dollar multistate <a href="https://www.consumerfinancialserviceslawmonitor.com/2019/01/49-attorneys-general-announce-half-billion-dollar-multistate-settlement-with-for-profit-education-company/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">settlement</a> with CEC, they rebranded to Paredeco and is still a publicly traded company [PRDO].

<div>Ashley has spent the last 20 years researching and advocating for Brooks borrowers after she and her husband ended up in over half a million dollars in debt from attending Brooks Institute's visual journalism program. She currently resides just north of Boston with her daughter and her husband Rich, whom she co-owns Pizzuti Photography. She has made it her mission to expose CEC for its corrupt practices and return borrowers whole.

A native Louisianian, he’s wrestled alligators in the swamps, adventured in the High Sierras of California, filmed with The Westboro Baptist Church, and photographed wildfires and numerous presidents. One of the founders of New Sky Productions, he has been named one of The Nashua Telegraph’s 20 Emerging Business Leaders in 2014 and The New Hampshire Union Leaders’ 40 Under 40. Grant loves spending time with his wife Caitlyn and their colossal yellow lab, Rufus, in the great outdoors of New Hampshire. Tell Grant ‘Hi,’ and ask him to tell you a joke.
