Please help the Seamans Family

For those who are unaware. My oldest son Joseph became sick last Friday. Things progressively became worse until we took him to Athol ED on Sunday. Joe was found to be septic and flu positive, he is extremely ill. He was transferred to UMASS Pediatric ER and then upstairs to the PICU. He was placed on broad spectrum antibiotics and drugs to keep his blood pressure high enough to perfuse his organs. His condition worsened today and breathing became difficult. Joe was placed on Bipap,then his work of breathing became so labored/fatigued he had to be intubated. Our Parish Priest came to visit and Joseph received last rites. Spiritually he is strong, he has a deep faith in God. He is in a fight for his life. Naturally his mother and I are beside ourselves. This is not something we ever considered would happen,especially to a physically fit healthy young man. We are hoping to see significant improvement over the next few days as the infectious disease team identifies exactly what it is attacking Joe. I just wanted to thank the staff at Athol ED especially Dr Gilbert who quickly identified the situation. The MedStar crews who got Joe to UMASS. And the Staff in Pediatrics at UMASS who have gone out of their way for us. Thank you to our friends and family. Thank you for the offers of help. As things progress, hopefully for the better, I hope to get right back to work. Jacinta will be out of work at UMASS with Joe. We will most likely be asking for help with meals,childcare, unexpected expenses & medical bills. Please keep in mind if you are visiting he is flu positive. This flu season has been awful, we can do allot to prevent infection by just washing hands,using hand sanitizer, and covering our mouths when we cough. Thank You and God bless you all! Andrew
