Please help The Holah’s!

My name is Chelsea and I have created this account for my gorgeous best friend Megan, her husband Jake & their two beautiful children; Brooklyn & Darcy.

Megan and Jake brought their first home in mid March and began renovations immediately. Upon starting these renovations they have come across some minor but also some major issues. The first issue was a lot of exposed electrical work under the house and as well as in the roof which was fixed immediately but cost Megan and Jake $2000.

Megan & Jake then had a plumber come and look at their house to fix some plumbing issues where the plumber found an infestation of black mould due to an incorrect installation of the washing machine that has leaked. Megan and Jake had an inspector come out from ATEC Disaster Recovery, who performed a full report on the mould, deeming the house unsafe for their 1 year old son, who was born with compromised lungs, to enter let alone live in.
The mould has spread along the plaster around to half of the kitchen, and slightly in their daughters room.

AMTEC quoted $16,000 just for the removal and treatment of the mould and that wouldn’t even begin to cover the restoration of the kitchen and framework of the house that would need replacing after the mould has been removed. They also said that through insurance this usually takes 2-3 months but as this is a prior issue Megan and Jakes insurance policy  will not cover this.

And to top it off Megan and Jakes currently rental property is only allowing them to extend their vacate date until 20th of April as they have new tenants moving in. As from that date, The Holah’s will technically be homeless, paying a mortgage for a house that isn’t safe to live in, while trying to feed 4 mouths.

For anyone who knows Megan & Jake you will know that they are most hard working, kind, selfless people you will ever meet. Megan is a loving mother, a beautiful friend & is also an animal lover which some of you may know her as the face behind Pooch & Co. Megan works full time and runs her business all on her own.  Due to the current circumstances she has had to close her business so she can deal with all of these issues. Jake is an amazing friend, father & husband to Megan. Jake works extremely hard to provide for his family but at the moment this just isn’t going to cut it. Jake is also in remission from having lymphoma a few years ago & on top of that their son Darcy was born with respiratory issues and spent sometime in special care as a newborn. Both Darcy and Jake cannot be anywhere near the house until the black mould has been professionally removed and that they know the house is safe as both their health could affected by the black mould

I ask that you please share this with your friends/family and donate if you can. Any support would be amazing for Megan and Jake right now so please contact me if you can help them in anyway. If anyone has any advice for Megan & Jake please pass it on, not only do we want to raise money but also awareness so this does not happen to another first home buyer!
