Please help Suzanne keep Swimming

I met Suzanne when she was swimming in the lane next to me at a Clacton Swimming Club Masters workout.  Meeting her and learning her story has inspired me, and I think it will inspire you, too.

Suzanne suffered a severe illness nine years ago that wasn't diagnosed properly.  As a result, she suffers from a combination of dystonia, myoclonus and a pituitary tumour and has been diagnosed with Addison's - a rare condition that needs constant, daily monitoring.  Suzanne was an able-bodied person- a gymnast and a runner - and worked full time as a primary school teacher.  She now uses a wheelchair to get around and cannot work.

Suzanne's mother is her full-time caregiver and she gets Suzanne to all her swim training and events, and can always be seen at the end of Suzanne's lane recording laps.  Tragically, Suzanne suffered the loss of her father and brother to illness.  Her wonderful mum and her swimming are the two positive, uplifting constants in her life.

Suzanne discovered para-swimming in 2009, started competing in 2013, and since then has won many medals at the national level.  Suzanne holds British Swimming para-swimming records and beats many swimmers half her age.  Her goal is to continue competing at the national level in the hopes of making 2020 Summer Paralympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

British Swimming cannot support all its para-swimming athletes in their ongoing training and events.  This is where You, my Friends, come in.

Can we help Suzanne Keep Swimming?  Any donation big or small would help toward Suzanne's competition entrance fees and travel expenses for her national events as she trains for the 2020 Paralympics.

Suzanne is an All Together Ambassador for Active Essex and she volunteers with the Pituitary Foundation.  In addition to volunteering, Suzanne is writing a children's book about Addison's disease.  You can read more about Suzanne and her accomplishments on her website "Dystonia Princess".

Please join us in supporting this amazing athlete so she can pursue her love of swimming and represent her country in national and international para-swimming competitions.
