Please help support Mary through cancer treatment

"When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure"

Recently, Mary, whom we all love and adore was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in February at just 41 years old. Some of her dearest, lifelong friends and our family have come together to try to gather support for her basic medical and ordinary living expenses, so that she can focus 100% on her medical treatments and healing her body.

Anyone who knows Mary knows her to be the brightest light, and most joyful person in the room at any time. She is so very loved by our family, her friends, and everyone lucky enough to know her. But most importantly, she is the beloved single mother of her two daughters, Olivia and Elizabeth. Mary is the kind of person everyone needs in their life. She is helpful, kind, and always ready to lighten the load of anyone she can reach out to. She has the prettiest smile and is full of silly jokes, laughter and she will gladly whip up a pie for you or share fresh herbs from her garden if she thinks you might enjoy them.
My little sister has always been incredibly strong, healthy and vibrant. To say this diagnosis is shocking is a grand understatement. It is utterly devastating for all of us.

As a hair stylist, Mary cannot continue to work each day while undergoing a very aggressive treatment plan which includes multiple rounds of chemo followed by surgery and then more chemo. She is far too susceptible to infections and the side effects of chemo are unpredictable at the least. Because of this, the financial strain of this illness and treatment is enormous. We are simply trying to support her through the 6-7 month expected duration of the treatment at this time, and to assist with the needs of her children to continue to live their lives as normally as possible. Elizabeth is currently working in Germany as an Au Pair and cannot afford to travel back and forth to see her mother without help. We would like to make sure she has the opportunity to come home if needed.

We have been told that we can hope for a positive outcome with this treatment plan. But any financial support, kind words, thoughts and prayers are welcome here as there is no telling what lies ahead. We know for certain that it will be a long and difficult treatment and recovery.

Mary is the diamond of our family, and the oak tree to her two daughters.

Thank you so much for considering helping her and the girls through this challenging time. If you are reading this and feel inclined to share with friends near and far, we would deeply appreciate that. Everyone, at some point in life has been touched by cancer.

Much love,
The Stephenson family, Matt McGowan and dear friends
