Please help Stanley Pierre-Louis

This GoFundMe is dedicated to one the best human beings I’ve come to know. Stanley Pierre-Louis is someone we all know and love in our lives in some version.

Stanley is a loving husband and father as well as a brother, cousin, friend, that family member that is always there with a helping hand. He’s the person that won’t let you down and would climb mountains and rivers to make sure you’re okay. His goal was always simple. Be the best that he can and take care of the people in his life. It saddens me that he is now in a race against time and in a fight against ALS.

Many of us learned about ALS because of the “Ice Bucket Challenge.” The challenge raised public awareness and people realize how tough the fight against ALS is. It pains me to see my friend, who was top 10 in MA State for Track-N-Field. Who also has an undefeated recorded at his Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School after almost 20yrs be affected with this debilitating disease.

ALS, also known as motor neuron disease (MND) and Lou Gehrig's disease, is a specific disease which causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. ALS has no cure at this time.

Being recently diagnosed with ALS Stanley and his doctors were unsure about what was affecting his legs, his sudden weight loss, and his overall lack of mobility over this last year. During the last few months of 2017, Stanley was unable to drive to work due to the nerve loss in his legs. His ability to stand and breathe unassisted has taken a heavy toll on his wife, family and day to day life.

Stanley is only in his second stage of life. He got married four years ago to literally his best friend and soul mate Maryanne. Together they brought their first home and started their family. They share 2 beautiful children. One boy, Quintin age 3, and wonderful daughter, Lillyanna, that just celebrated her first birthday. Maryanne is also a caregiver to many children in her neighborhood. She runs a daycare that provides a safe environment that people in her community can trust. Together they faced every problem head-on. This happy story of true love and a lifetime of service to others has been interrupted with misfortune that many could not bear.

Dealing with ALS has taken away Stanley’s income and personal mobility away from them. Maryanne’s Day Care has been temporally re-assigned as she is now the primary

caretaker for Stanley. This is a 24/7 supporting role that she has been handling with grace. Even with all the support of both their families the weight of the medical bills, mortgage, and day to day necessities is digging them into a financial hole few people are equipped to handle. The financial strain of dealing with tens of thousands of medical bills, transportation, and in-home treatment is introducing problems you would not expect in normal conditions. Stanley can no longer use steps and is confined to a medical bed, a breathing machine, and is transported in a wheelchair. Their home is a 2-story colonial which is being modified to keep him safe and alive while fighting this uphill battle. Imagine dealing with these unforeseen events and realizing that you have to get your “affairs in order.” This is something no one wants to hear. It implies that you have an expiration date that is sooner rather than later.

You never consider how you will connect with your children, and the loved ones you leave behind. We want to leave the best memories for our kids; small things like the

sound of our voice, the smell of a shirt or the warmth of a hug. Not all things can be recorded for loving reminders at a later time. But due to the speed of the disease,

they are considering ways to do exactly that. Like recording bedtime stories for their kids to remember the sound of their father’s voice or messages of love and advice for

when he’s not there to comfort them in person. These are some of the emotional challenges a parent must consider in preparation for an undeniable possibility.

How Can You Help?

I know we all want to help and have people in need already in our prayers already, but on behalf of Stanley, Maryanne, Quintin, and Lillyanna I am asking you to take action and help us find a way to create a positive outcome. Help us reach our goal with a donation. Help us reach more people and raise awareness about ALS by sharing this link one time on your social media. If you want to help but can’t give right now, sharing this link with your friends and family is another great way to help. The more people who can see this, the more support we can give to Stanly & Maryanne.

We would like to thank you in advance for the financial support you may be able to provide, as well as your continued prayers and positive thoughts.

With love and gratitude,

Stanley’s family & friends
