My name is Leila, I live in London with my husband Ibrahim and our three children aged 8, 6 and 3 years old, and I really need your help because when I was pregnant with my last child in 2018 Ibrahim was diagnosed with cancer…
Ibrahim has now been fighting a rare type of cancer called Chordoma for 3 years. It is in an odd location – the pleura (the sack around the lung) and when it was first found it was growing very aggressively. There was nothing that the NHS could do for us and we had to research further afield.
Ibrahim would not give up and found a unique thoracic surgeon (lungs) who could do the plastic surgery needed to the chest wall, a Doctor Semih Halezeroglu in Istanbul, Turkey. It was a miracle that we found him at the last moment when we knew that the tumour had already been pushing Ibrahim's heart; at a time when many doctors around the world had refused to deal with his case, saying there was no chance.
We now know that Ibrahim can survive! He has been though the surgery where his whole right lung, three ribs, part of his diaphragm (muscle dividing chest from abdomen) and pericardium (sack around heart) were removed. He had complications with infection a few times and had to have another operation on mediastinum a year and half later, but he is still here and doing ok.
Our oncologist in Turkey suggested a DNA analysis of the tumour and treatment based on ‘binding tumour enzymes’. Ibrahim started to have this conservative treatment in February 2020 and although it makes him weak, vulnerable and prone to infections… IT WORKS!
I desperately now need to raise funds to ensure that we can continue with this very promising treatment as all of our personal financial resources have now been spent. He still needs at least 6 months of the treatment at a cost of £4,500 per month and this cost does not include any travel or accommodation fees.
Ibrahim is 45 years old and is giving his all, fighting with the disease, so that his children have a father in their life.
The thing that really bothers me is that my husband has a chance for survival and the only thing that stands in his way is money. Now, after one year of this treatment we have gained hope. I sincerely believe that we can achieve a stable remission which would mean a world to us!
I am asking for anyone who could contribute as little as £1 to our fight against this cancer… “can you please help?” Your kindness would mean the world to me and my children!
