Dear Friends,
On December 7th, I learned that I was to be laid off from my tenured teaching position at The College of Saint Rose, where I've taught for the past 22 years. There is an appeals process, and I believe there are strong reasons why I should be reappointed. In order to press my case, I was advised to retain an attorney.
I've been fortunate until now. I've met challenges without having to ask for help. But this time is different. The crushing legal expenses I will incur are more than I can possibly bear.
Some know me as a music professor and a composer; some know me for my successful campaign to bring Trader Joe's to the Capital District (or more recently as the founder of a non-profit that promotes better government); some know me as a proud parent and devoted member of the Capital District's Jewish community; and some know me as a friend, neighbor or relative. Over the years I've been blessed to wear so many different hats and to meet so many wonderful people along the way.
I believe there is still a place for me in front of a classroom at Saint Rose, but if in the end my appeal is not successful, I'm sure I will find other paths that will allow me to serve our community.
I appreciate your kindness and however much you can contribute. And please do stay in touch. Your friendship and support is more important than ever.
