Though eventually due to severe medical issues, they had to both retire at early ages.
Our mom has had so many surgeries since 1980 that we have lost count. She has had to have a pain pump as well as a spinal cord stimulator inserted in her body to help with the pain. But the pain never seems to go away.
She is currently having bone scans on her foot due to a prior diabetic ulcer that has returned and is infected. She is being seen by a Wound Care Specialist to try to stop the spread of infection from going in to the bone in her foot.
Almost 3 months ago, our dad went and had his blood work done expecting the same normal outcome as always. But he received a call from his doctor indicating that after further testing, our dad had been diagnosed with CML which is Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
It was devastating for him to have to sit us 3 girls down right before the holidays and tell us of such bad news.
He was recently in the hospital with Bronchitis, high fever and an uncontrollable cough due to his compromised immune system.
He is currently under the care of a breathing Specialist due to complications from fluid around his lungs.
Our parents are on a very fixed income so between the co-pays, pain and management medications, premium costs and doctor visits, that's enough on its own. But then add in hospital stays, medical equipment and whatever else comes their way, it just keeps adding up. It's hard to watch them pay a little on this bill and a little on another just to get by so they can pay for our dad's monthly $900 cancer medications. Or to know about the mortgage on our family home that they have had to refinance several times just to stay afloat. Not even to mention groceries, utilities, gas money and general expenses that most of us take for granted.
Even through all of that, our parents would go out of their way to help others in need and in any way that they could. Even if it meant putting other's needs before their own. And they continue to do so because that's just how kind hearted and selfless that they are. We truly believe that they are angels on Earth.
However, they are very strong willed and private people so they would never ask for any financial assistance for fear of being a burden to anyone. Unfortunately this has caused them to suffer in silence for many years.
They are just so physically, emotionally and financially drained that they cannot do this on their own any longer.
We honestly believe that their positive attitudes and strong faith have been what's kept them going all of this time along with loved ones such as yourselves.
We are hoping that God's light will shine brightly on them and that the generosity of those that are reading this, will please help.
So we three daughters have decided to ask for this on their behalf.
We love our parents dearly and extremely appreciate any donation amount that you can give. Thank you & God Bless!
