Please help my son finish college after Maui fire

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Community,
I'm reaching out with a humble heart and a sincere plea for your help. My name is Mei, and you might recognize me as the proud single mom who dedicated over 15 years to owning and running Front Street’s beloved Fu Lin restaurant. My journey started when my son Kelvin was just 2 years old, and the restaurant has been a part of our lives ever since.
Last June, I made the difficult decision to retire and let go of the restaurant. I had dreams of finally enjoying retirement, watching my son Kelvin go off to college, and relishing the rewards of my hard work. Unfortunately, life had different plans for us. On August 8th, the wildfires struck Lahaina with unimaginable force, reducing our home of almost 10 years (1404 Front Lahaina Hi 96761) to ashes. It was a place filled with memories, hard-earned stability, and dreams for the future.
Miraculously, our family was away from home at the time, returning on August 10th, only to find everything we knew had turned to rubble. The few remnants that stand are a stark reminder of the life we once had.
Adding to the challenges, our home insurance had lapsed on July 29th, a heartbreaking oversight as I was away dealing with personal matters. While I can't change the past, I'm determined to build a future for my family. I'm picking up the pieces both literally and figuratively, striving to create a new normal for us.
One of my biggest worries is my son Kelvin's education. I've always dreamed of giving him the chance to attend college, and I don't want these unforeseen circumstances to rob him of that opportunity. He has worked so hard, and I want to ensure his dreams stay intact despite the hurdles we face. The fund I raised here will go directly to support him finishing his college in University of Hawaii.
I know we're not alone in this struggle. The Maui community has shown incredible resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity. There are many worthy causes to support, and I understand if you're already contributing to rebuilding efforts. But if you find it within your means and your heart to support my family as we navigate this challenging chapter, we would be forever grateful.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Mei
