Help Me Uncover Portugal’s Food & Parts Unknown

About the show:

Traveling, food and people are my biggest passions; after working in kitchens for eight years, I have decided to follow my dream and create a pilot episode for a food & travel show this year, intending to submit it to the American channel Food Network. The objective is to get financing for a whole series.

In this TV show, I aim to visit lesser-known places in the world and try their cuisine while exploring the areas' social, cultural and political aspects. My objective is to show the origin of every food offered in the show so we understand the importance of knowing where our food comes from while simultaneously trying to understand the relation between culture and food and how food operates as an expression of cultural identity.

The pilot episode:

The pilot episode will be filmed in the islands of the Azores in Portugal, where I will explore the unique culture and heritage of this well-kept secret in the Atlantic ocean.

We will show the most traditional Azorean food being prepared by the local population in their homes & in the most beautiful outdoor places while getting to know the local people and exploring their cultural and social aspects.

What do we have so far:

So far, I have received the support of the cinema producer Mr. Wolf who will co-produce this project with me by providing me with €5,000, some equipment & a film crew, while I will be investing an extra €5,000 of my own money. So far, we have a total of €10,000, which amounts to about 50% of my predicted budget (€20,000).

What is missing:

Currently, we have a script, a crew, equipment & partial financing. All we are missing now is some extra financing to be able to rent the rest of the equipment, pay for plane trips, hotels, rental cars, fuel and other miscellaneous expenses.

People who donate over €500 will be personally invited to join me as special guests in the next episode, where they will have the opportunity to come and enjoy a beautiful sunset while sharing some delicious food.

About me:

My name is Ricardo Baixinho; I am 28 and currently live in Lisbon, Portugal, where I have been managing for four years a Gastrobar called "Como Assim" (https://www.facebook.com/comoassim.av/).

I have been working in hospitality for over eight years now. Throughout this time, I have worked and traveled in countries such as Italy, Australia & Portugal, where I have worked in all positions possible inside kitchens and bars, from dishwasher to cook, bartender, and manager - I have pretty much done it all. 

Now, it’s time to get out of my comfort zone and start something new.
