Please help me get a jumpstart on my cat's care.

Hello all,
I want to preface this by saying that I understand this year has been a kick in the head; too many things to list. From the time I've had my baby boy Ivan (now 8 ), since July of 2018 to now I had never been faced with a serious situation concerning him. Yet, this year has decided to throw me a curveball that I was ill prepared for even with having a job.
Ivan was diagnosed with diabetes and sitting on the precipice of developing ketoasodosis(the spelling eludes me). A prognosis that is very worrisome as this illness will begin to eat at his organs if not properly treated. I purchased pet insurance but, that does not become active until January 14th. I had to suddenly pay $1000 that I didn't have just to keep my dear baby for one over night. The vet wants to keep him till Sunday and I am sadly can't pay to keep him on the viral medicine that he needs to be cleared to come home to me. I'm shaking thinking about not being able to provide for him. I can’t let him down after he has done so much for me. I can’t imagine coming home and not seeing him there. Sparkling eyes and tail swaying. Toe beans moving as fast as he can for a hug.
Ivan is a very special cat to me: he was born May 21 which is the birthday of my deceased father. Ivan also has been a wonderful fur baby who always lights up the home, sleeping next to me, putting up with being put in costumes! Any and all help is immensely appreciated as I wish to keep this little big man happy for years to comes.
