Please Help Maria and Her Family!

Donation protected
Maria has been the cleaning lady on the floor that I work for at least eight years now. She's always quick with a smile and is always doing kind gestures without telling anyone. If you took a picture of "selfless" it would look just like Maria.

Two weeks ago, she was run over by a truck while crossing at a light (it was green for her) as she was on her way to pick up her weekly lottery ticket while on break from work.  She dreams of one day winning the lottery so she can take better care of her family.

One of my colleagues witnessed the incident and
while she was unconcious and bleeding from the head he provided aid to her until the paramedics arrived. She was rushed to USC-County Hospital where it was found she had a broken pelvis, fractured neck and spine, and a severe concussion with bleeding in her head.

Maria is the primary breadwinner for her family and she was told by her doctors she will not be able to work for two years.  I don't know Maria's age as I think it rude to ask but I estimate her to be around 60.

Maria is married with seven children, one of whom will be graduating from college soon. He hopes to be able to help out the family soon so Maria doesn't have to work so hard. Her husband is dealing with diabetes he is struggling to get under control. He works whenever he is able but there are times he's just too sick to work.

The accident was deemed a workman's comp case so Maria's medical will be covered.  However, she will receive only 65% of her salary as a cleaning lady which is nowhere near enough for her, her children and husband to pay rent, buy groceries, pay tuition, buy school clothes for the kids, etc. In addition, that 65% will be taxed.

By donating to Maria and her family, you will enable them to eat healthy food, buy gas so they can visit her as she has been placed in a Rehabilitation Center in Pasadena, pay for medicine for her husband's diabetes, and help make sure the family can pay rent. 65% of her cleaning lady salary simply will not provide for the necessities her family will need while she's recovering in the Rehabilitation facility.

$20,000 is the minimum she will need for this year to help her family just survive. It would be so great if we could raise more so they could have some fun once in a while. I've met Maria's husband and one of her sons and they are very kind people just like Maria.

Can you find it in your heart to give to Maria and her family? No amount is too small! Los Angeles is an expensive city in which to live and I can't imagine the challenges that lay ahead for them. Helping them out will give you major good karma points! And who can't use some good karma?
