Please Help Margaret

My cousin Len Dela Cruz is a single Mom with three daughters. There was a surge of Covid-19 at her workplace and she got it. Her eldest daughter Jill drove Len around for three days, to find a hospital that would accept her. Pneumonia had set in and she was getting weaker. Thankfully, just before midnight of the third day, they found one.  My cousin Len is out of the hospital and now recuperating in a paid accommodation for 14 days. Sadly, her daughter Jill tested positive and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, after waiting a few days for a hospital to admit her. The middle and youngest daughters are also living in separate accommodations as the latter had been exposed to both Len and Jill. They will get their whole house disinfected before moving back in, to avoid possible recurrence and to protect Len’s 92-year old mother and sibling who lives next door. Len was taking care of her Mom before she fell ill.

My niece Margaret Mulholland has three children and the two youngest are aged 8 and 5. Margaret was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 3B in June.  Relatives and friends pitched in so she could get her biopsy and other procedures done. These were needed to determine the stage of the cancer and the corresponding treatment. However, she could not begin chemotherapy and radiation immediately as her ovary needed to be drained and her hemoglobin and creatinine levels stabilized, as the latter was also causing her left leg to swell.  After 18 days in the hospital she is hopefully, ready to begin treatment.  From the time she was diagnosed to now, her cancer has moved up to stage 3C. She is in a lot of pain and is dependent on medications to manage this.

For Len, Jill and Margaret, it is a long and expensive road to recovery. However, they are all strong women. There is so much at stake and I know they will fight for themselves and for their families.

Like in most countries, the pandemic has hit the Philippines and its people quite hard. Jobs and livelihood have been lost and the people are struggling. Medical insurance coverage and government assistance are limited and if you can’t afford to pay for medical insurance, then most of the costs will be out of pocket expense. Relatives and friends have contributed to help pay for medical bills, post-hospitalization and other associated costs. But the funds collected are not enough. I am reaching out to you on behalf of my relatives, Len and her daughters,  Margaret and her children. Donations and/or prayers are most welcome and appreciated. Collections will be split equally between these two families. A dollar or two here in the USA is more than most families there can afford, so no amount is too small. Thank you for any assistance you can give. Stay safe and be well. May God protect us all.
