Please Help Kendra With Her Medical Care

First, we want to thank you all for your prayers and kind words while we all support Kendra in her recovery.

For those unaware, our dear friend, co-worker, daughter, sister, and auntie Kendra has been in ICU since Saturday, March 20th.

Kendra, who is often the first to give of herself and care for those around her, needs your help.

Many of you have reached out to see how you can help so we have set up a GoFundMe to provide an avenue for contributions to help with Kendra’s extensive medical bills and her eventual recovery.

All money raised will be used to pay current the many outstanding medical costs that are adding up and to help Kendra's extensive recovery battle once she is out of the hospital.

Kendra’s Story:
On Saturday, March 20 after a crazy week of work at Cheers Kendra experienced stomach pains and was rushed to the hospital.

She was immediately admitted for emergency surgery where the doctors discovered a significant blood clot blocking the blood and oxygen flow to her small intestine. Over 85% of her small intestine died in a matter of hours and had to be surgically removed. Dangerous blood clots were also discovered in her lungs.

Since that initial trauma, many of her other organs and vitals have gone through varying stages of shock and/or failure; her liver, pancreas, and kidneys have all been severely impacted.

The amazing health care professionals, doctors, and nurses at St. Francis Medical Center have attempted to navigate the fine balance between treating some symptoms while not increasing risk to her other conditions.

Kendra has received many blood transfusions and other treatments over the last three weeks to try and balance her blood pressure and platelet counts.

Recently, her care providers have attempted to reduce Kendra’s sedation levels and get her breathing without the ventilator.  So far, Kendra has not been able to independently manage her oxygen, blood pressure, or blood sugar levels.

It appears this was all brought on from a previously undiagnosed blood condition called D.I.C. which causes terrible blood clots where you don’t want them.

When she is able to leave the hospital, her primary limitation will be living without most of her small intestine.  The small intestine is responsible for taking the nutrients from your food and getting those nutrients into your bloodstream.

Kendra’s doctors are not yet able to accurately speculate as to her care needs when she recovers, but it is likely to include a very long, slow road of physical therapy and potentially significant life changes.

Without her small intestine, Kendra may require a nutrient drip to supplement what she is able to eat and drink.

Her family and close friends stand ready to support her in whatever she needs, but we are also unsure of the financial burden her care may bring.  For that, we reach out to you, Kendra’s extended family, and ask for your aid.
