Please Help Joe Fight Cancer

“I have cancer” is one of the worst phrases I’ve ever heard. In November, we found out that my Dad has aggressive esophageal cancer. He’s had three surgeries to attempt to remove the cancerous tumors from his esophagus. The last surgeon successfully removed the tumors that the other doctors could not. Sadly, his pathology report came back and the margins were not clear. Only 20% of esophageal cancer is cured through chemotherapy and radiation. His only hope for a cure is to have an esophageal bypass, which means they will remove most of his esophagus and make him a new one out of part of his stomach. This will be a major surgery. He will be in the hospital for at least a week. He will have a feeding tube for weeks when he gets home. He will not be able to work for at least three months. I feel helpless. I want to fix it. I want to make it better. I know that the only thing I can do is love and support him through it all. Then I thought that just maybe with the help of our friends and family and possibly a few kind hearted strangers, we can offer some peace of mind while he recovers. As the bills started coming from the first three surgeries, I could see the worry on his face. I know that this next step will be huge and very expensive. I am hoping that I will be able to rally people around him in his time of need and that we can help him feel confident that things will be okay. Any amount is appreciated as we head into this battle.
