Please help Jackie fight CANCER!

Donation protected
A little over ten months ago my mom started feeling sick and didn't know why.  After two emergency visits, numerous doctor's visits, x-ray, MRI, 60 pounds lost, blood transfusions and wrong diagnosis, she decided to make an appointment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  Within an hour of her first test they had the answer to her illness.  She has been diagnosed with multiple Myeloma, which is a cancer of plasma cells.

Plasma cells are found in bone marrow, the blood producing tissues within your bones. Plasma cells produce antibodies, which circulate in the blood to help your body fight infection. Usually plasma cells make up about 1 to 2 percent of cells in bone marrow.  However, if you have multiple myeloma, abnormal plasma cells multiply. The cause is not known. It is not contagious and it is not inherited.  It is also not curable but is treatable.

While at Mayo Clinic she went through a lot of tests to narrow down how to treat MM, which included bone marrow biopsy, blood work, urine tests, and bone scans.  My mom will be returning to Mayo next week for further blood tests, imaging exams (MRI) and a positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) which will show how much damage is in her bones.

We will also discuss starting chemo treatments there and possibly continuing them in her area hospitals and finding a MM specialist.

She has been in a lot of pain for the past five months with trips to the emergency room via ambulance to now using a cane.  Multiple myeloma can be emotionally challenging but I am so glad she found the right medical personnel to find answers.

My mom is a children's librarian for her local library. She loves to connect with the families and hold programs with special guests. She is known for her kindness and helpfulness to family's with children who just need a little help. For years she cleaned for some elderly clients. They became part of our family.

She has 2 girls and 7 granddaughters. Because of her generosity, she has become family to her friends and their kids. When you go shopping with her, she is always buying for others. She is an avid sewer and has recently sold at craft fairs. She loves to make American Girl clothes and even made all three of my girls their entire wardrobes when they were younger.

My mom is one of the strongest women I know. Over the years I can look back and see how much she has done for my sister and I. She has done so much for my kids and I could never say thank you enough for everything she has done. Even with all the pain she is in, she made sure to make it to my wedding an hour and a half away. I knew she was hurting and it meant everything to me.

Please help me relieve some of her stress with all the medical bills and traveling back and forth for treatment. She has lots of emotional support and friends to check on her. I appreciate all of you
