Heather has been diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma, which is genetically linked to Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, a disease that Heather was diagnosed with at the age of 13. Heather has already had several invasive surgeries to remove her colon (riddled with hundreds of polyps), create a J-Pouch, remove extensive debilitating internal pelvic/abdominal keloid scarring, along with experiencing a few blockages, peritonitis, and acute pancreatitis. She recently received the diagnosis that there is more in store for her. If you know Heather, you know that she is warm, positive, independent, and a true friend. She loves life. As an entrepreneur, animal lover, and artist, she has handled many of the challenges in life independently, but now she needs our help.
Heather is bravely facing chemo and radiation, followed by a two-part surgery to remove the cancer and leaving her with an ileostomy. While enduring the 6 weeks of daily chemo and radiation treatments, it will be difficult for Heather to work outside of home, reducing her income by 80% or more. Heather is an only child so sibling support is nonexistent. After 6 to 12 weeks of recovery from chemo and radiation Heather will have a major 7-hour surgery that will result in a permanent ileostomy and an additional rehab and recovery period of 6 to 8 weeks. While Heather has health insurance, the insurance, co-pays, and supplements (to minimize side effects) will be expensive. Finally, Heather will have to endure 1 more surgery 6 to 12 months after the first surgery. This surgery will require travel and housing at the Cleveland clinic. We don't know how she can do this and meet her bills while not being able to fully work, so this page was created to help with her various financial needs to give her some help.
