Hi, I’m Paula Skweres, and I’m reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea to support the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin as they work to help two Goldens recently brought in to the rescue.
A Mother’s Strength, A Puppy’s Hope – We Need Your Help
This beautiful mother dog, Betsy and her puppies were recently surrendered into our care. What we hoped would be the beginning of a safe, healing chapter for them quickly turned into an urgent medical crisis.
Shortly after arriving, the mother fell ill and was diagnosed with pneumonia. While undergoing a chest X-ray, we made a heartbreaking discovery: her body is riddled with birdshot pellets. Someone had shot her—and left her without medical care. Whether it was an accident or something far more cruel, abandoning her in this condition is inexcusable.
Once she recovers from pneumonia, we’ll face the difficult decision of whether surgery is needed to remove the pellets that remain lodged in her side. For now, her foster is providing round-the-clock care to help her heal.
As if that weren’t enough, Lady-the shyest of Betsy's puppies is also in serious condition. Lady is suffering from a diaphragmatic hernia—a life-threatening condition where her abdominal organs have shifted into her chest cavity, putting pressure on her lungs and making it difficult for her to breathe. This kind of injury can be caused by trauma or may be a congenital defect. Surgery is Lady's only hope. This lifesaving procedure, estimated to cost between $10,000 and $12,000, will reposition her organs and repair the tear.
Whether her injury was caused by trauma or a congenital defect, the pain she’s in is very real—and treatable with your help.
These dogs deserve a chance at life free from pain, fear, and neglect. With your support, we can provide the care they desperately need. Our dedicated fosters are ready to see them through recovery—but we cannot do it without the generosity of our community.
Please consider making a donation today to help cover the cost of X-rays, treatments, and surgeries for this brave little family.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us give them a second chance. Your kindness is the reason we can continue this work—one life at a time
