Please help Dennis (Denny) & Lori

Friends,

Last year my uncle Denny had a stroke; he was alone at the time and literally ran himself to the hospital. He underwent treatment and physical therapy and, thankfully, had few lasting impairments as a result. Unfortunately Denny had a second stroke earlier this summer. This time he is experiencing lasting physical and mental deficits, including extreme anxiety that makes being alone very difficult for him. My aunt Lori is unable to work as she continues to care for him. Lori is ineligible for EI. Denny’s disability EI is scheduled to end on October 20. This means they will be depending fully on Denny’s disability pension, which is only a few hundred dollars a month. They have medical bills and of course rent, food and other bills to cover. Denny’s disability pension will not even cover their rent. Denny and Lori have always lived modestly but have given so much of themselves to others. If you live in Halifax, NS and have ever attended a concert or festival or local event there is a good chance one or both of these people have volunteered in some capacity to help make that event happen. For years they have volunteered for the IWK Telethon, a fundraiser for the local childrens’ hospital. I’ve always admired how much time and effort and commitment they have made to improving the lives of others. And on a personal level even though I always knew Denny and Lori come from modest means they have always shown me a tremendous amount of love and support and never missed a holiday or birthday celebration. And now they need help. Help not only from me which I am gladly giving but from the community they’ve given so much to and even from strangers who might be so inclined. My hope is to raise at least enough that the next few months they can rest easy knowing they will have a roof over their heads and food as they navigate Denny’s full recovery and until Lori can get back to working. Every little bit helps. From the bottom of my heart, thank you in advance.
