Hi Friends! Wow this is a strange place to be. Many of you who know me know that Ive had lower back problems for close to 20 years now that I have had various conservative therapies for over the years including acupuncture and chiropractic manipulation. Well- Degenerative Disk Disease has progressed to the point where it turned the corner two weeks ago, very suddenly.
Ive been resting, staying off my feet and hoping things will just settle down but it's getting worse by the day. At this point my left leg alternates between feeling like it is on fire, or has poison ivy all over it, or if I move the slightest bit wrong I lose feeling and control in it altogether.
It started two weeks ago as just in the left leg but now it is pretty much constantly everything below the waist. Yes, EVERYTHING. I'm sorry if this is TMI but I'll have "accidents" to go the the bathroom and I'm realizing it's because Ive had to go for a while but my brain just wasn't getting the message. It's getting interesting trying to drive a car or get up to answer the phone and this affects your balance in strange ways too.
My options are have highly invasive and expensive surgery that has a only 45% success rate, has long painful difficult recovery and requires lots of follow up care. Since Im not working I have no insurance.
My other option is much more attractive, and a lot less expensive.
North America has opened the Umbilical Stem Cell bank this year. We expect to require three CCs of cells which is three treatments, there is no follow up and has been shown to be 93% effective for lumbar Stenosis. Part of the 7% that didn't work was found to be because the patient did not stop taking anti inflammatory drugs during the treatment which negates the effectiveness.
The cost of this is right around 10K. They price it so the cost of treatment is equivalent to an insurance policy deductible.
The doctor I'd like to see has 15 years experience with this and is also a patient.
Stem Cell therapy/Regenerative Medicine is not the future, it's happening NOW.
It cannot be approved by the FDA because it is not a drug, for that and other reasons it may never be covered by insurance.

Many of you also know that my last business failed even though we made a great product. It's been months since Ive had income and my wife is a teacher in North Carolina- on top of her just not making a lot it's been summer and she's had no income either.
I have never in my life asked anyone for anything like this because Ive always been able to take care of myself even with some serious issues such as Cardio Myopathy but I'm in a real catch 22 here because I'm just not hire-able right now for anything by anyone. It is literally all I can stand to sit in this chair to type this. It's difficult for me to write and read this because when you're in a certain amount of pain you can't concentrate.
Anyway I'm not very good at this and it's killing me that I have to ask- but I really really need your help right now, more than Ive ever needed help in my life.
