My fiancé Adam has been suffering the long-term effects of Chronic Lyme Disease after getting being bitten by an infected Tick several years ago.
As it wasn’t recognised by his GP nor and treated promptly with antibiotics, the infection spread like wildfire across his body, resulting in a series of unpleasant and ongoing symptoms, such as seizures, migratory muscle pain, chills, memory loss, peripheral neuropathy, low energy, and crushing migraines, which have all limited his ability to live and work.
At last, Adam was given a course of antibiotics which greatly improved his progress. The 4-week course the NHS offered wasn't long enough, however, and he relapsed soon after. As per NICE guidelines, if you're not well after 4 weeks, they don't offer further treatment, and you're left with what the NHS term, Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome. Thrown under the bus, basically.
Those who know Adam will be aware how profound the impact has been on his everyday life. He used to play rugby at school and football at Uni. He was an A-grade student with 'an extremely successful career ahead of him,' according to his Sixth Form Yearbook. In hindsight, he really had everything going for him. Now even making it out of bed to get to the shops or a social event is considered an achievement.
This disease is all-consuming and he NEEDS to get better. He WILL get better, as he’s doing everything he can to see through the treatment.
Even if he can achieve just 80% recovery, that’s a MASSIVE achievement and we’ll take that!
Adam is now on a new drug that has already performed extremely well in clinical trials. already. He’s also now under the care of an exceptional doctor.
He can't really work at the moment due to the severity of the condition, but if you’d like to help him fight this condition and gain a more functional life, then your support would be appreciated and if you feel able to contribute in some way, either by donating toward his treatment costs or just by sharing his story, then that could make a real difference in securing him the treatment he needs.
He needs to raise £15k to see this treatment through. He’s getting there but is still somewhat short - if you could help in some way I’d be forever grateful.
