Supporting De-young's Family

Kwame is a 47-year-old man from Ghana, he immigrated to Australia with his wife and 5 beautiful children in the hopes of a safer and better future.

During the past three years, Kwame has been raising their children on his own, as his wife returned to Ghana for family reasons.

As a single parent, Kwame has had to bear all the family’s hardships. Mid-May of 2022, Kwame’s second youngest child aged 11 was rushed unexpectedly to hospital, suffering from a sudden severe asthma attack. This was difficult to see because he was such a happy and energetic child. Two more hospital visits followed, and he fought vigilantly to stay alive on life support. However, on May 20th heaven gained an angel.

There are no words for a parent’s grief, Kwame is numbed by the sudden death of his son. Through the devastation, Kwame is expected to bring the family together and deal with the practicality of arranging a funeral while his wife is stuck in Ghana; with the high possibility of missing her own son’s funeral.

Kwame finds himself powerless to pay for the cost of the funeral as well as ongoing living expenses due to a lack of work caused by the pandemic. He hopes and prays his wife will somehow be able to make it to the funeral.
