Chelsea Monsell is a fifteen-year-old freshman at Littlestown High School. She plays soccer and track and is involved in youth group and bible quiz at her church. Her parents are CJ and Nikki Monsell and she is a big sister to Chloe. On April 6, 2019 Chelsea went to the Gettysburg Hospital ER thinking she had a stomach bug. They found out she had appendicitis and it had ruptured. She was then taken via ambulance to York Hospital. Her surgery was suppose to be an hour long however it took three hours because her infection and inflammation was so bad. She had a drain put in and had a lot of ups and downs with fevers, blood levels and overall sickness while in the hospital. On April 28th (22 days after she was first admitted) she was sent home from the hospital with a drain and PICC line for medication. However, two days later she was admitted back to York Hospital. While in the hospital she got very sick with fevers, vomiting, increased heart rate, decreased blood pressure, and ileus. They were monitoring her to see if she was septic. On May 10th she was transferred to John Hopkins. At John Hopkins she had another surgery to reposition her existing drain into the abscess that's in her pelvis to help drain the hematoma. She is currently in the ICU at JHU. Chelsea has a long road to recovery. Her appendix had adhered to her fallopian tube and her doctors are worried about scar tissue posing potential problems for her in the future. We ask that you pray for her total and complete healing and for guidance over the doctors at JHU to know what to do to help pull her out of this and back to health.
During all of this Chelsea's Mom has not been able to work at all due to being at her daughter's side. Her Dad has only worked maybe five days over the last month because of the hour to hour changes with his daughter and not knowing what will happen. Chelsea's mom was able to get FMLA to secure her job's future, but she is not being paid at all. On top of no income, she has to pay her medical insurance weekly for them to be able to keep it through her job. They have not missed one day at the hospital with their daughter and are incurring costs for gas and food along with trying to pay their regular monthly bills. This financial burden has been and is continuing to be very heavy on them and they need our help. Please consider donating to help them through this very difficult time.
