Fire Destroys Local Library

Tax deductible
The devastating November 6th fire that forced the historic Pleasant Valley Library to close this week has sparked a community campaign to re-open the badly damaged structure on Main Street in the heart of the hamlet as soon as possible. Library leaders are assessing the damage from the early morning blaze but remain optimistic that the building will be found structurally sound. Thousands of Pleasant Valley residents utilize the Library annually in myriad ways—from early childhood education classes and technology training to crafts clubs and yoga—in addition to it serving as one of the most prolific providers of books in the Mid-Hudson Library Network. The Pleasant Valley Library’s Board of Directors are striving to re-open this critical cultural resource as soon as it is safe and practical. Donations of any amount—from $5 to $5,000—will help them address the costs associated with restoration as expeditiously as possible. Since the Library has just begun a long-awaited capital campaign to renovate and expand the building, leaders stressed that this restoration effort will be accomplished in consort with the “Heart of Community” capital campaign currently underway.
