Sonja, a Chicago playwright, and Jack, her actor boyfriend, invite close friends to their apartment for a table read of her first play in three-years. Anticipation turns comically awkward wher her ex, Stanley, a successful Chicago director, arrives to offer his opinion of her new play, which may reveal more secrets than the playwright herself intended.
