Play Park Annual Fund
Donation protected
Welcome to the Play Park. We are a facility dedicated to the entertainment and education of children in the village of Bhatiary, near Chittagong in Bangladesh.
We offer free classes that would otherwise be out of reach to the children in the area. The 3 story building houses a BRAC pre-school, and a MAA after school project. The library of 4,000 English and Bangla books is open daily, as is the Playground. Classes and seminars in art, Taekwondo, English, computers, dance, embroidery, singing, crafts and cooking are offered with no fees. The park serves about 500 children and has become a central part of the community fabric.
The Play Park was founded and created by my parents, Caroline and Peter Bauer. Now, I am carrying on their legacy (trying to!) with my family. I visit the school each year to make sure that it continues to thrive and not fall into disrepair or neglect. Abul Kalam is the director, and his wife is the librarian and program coordinator.
Each year the Play Park serves more than 500 kids AND their parents. We provide free after school programs: art, computer, tae kwon do, dance, music and other special programs! The play ground (the only one of its kind for miles and miles) is a huge draw, as is the lending library of Bangla language books. Please help us provide this to the town of Bhattiary! Every donation, of any amount, is appreciated! The annual fund has been created to cover the annual cost to run the Play Park: to provide salaries to the teachers, including transportation, uniforms for tae kwon do and other supplies for art classes, as well as security and maintenance. Each month funds are transfered directly to the Play Park account to cover theses costs.
