My name is Megan Elms. I have been a member of Play-It-Forward (PIF) charity for the past 3 years. We are a Calgary based charity that has reached over 1500 children both locally and internationally. This February our team is packing our bags full of equipment and heading to Uganda for a project that will change the lives of 300+ children.
Let me tell you a little more about Play-it-Forward...
Our mission is to create projects teaching unique and specialized sport and active play programs to children in need. Through education and mentorship, our goal is for each project to leave a positive and sustainable impact on the children and their community. This is done by giving the leaders of the community the educational tools and resources needed to continue the daily practice, children sports education and experience of a lifetime, food and funds shared with those participating in the program and we'll even provide some jobs for local community members using local products and make an impact on the surrounding community.
There is a purpose to our play! Our programs are designed to help disadvantaged youth develop and grow in all areas; physically, socially, emotionally and mentally. The projects revolve around teaching athletics, fitness, health and wellness education, dance, gymnastics, sports basics, yoga, ball handling skills and teaching life skills through games and cooperative play activities.
6 Play it Forward Volunteers are traveling from Canada and going to a small village in Uganda in the middle of February. We are in desperate need to seek support and fundraise towards helping our mission to reach and teach these children in this community. All volunteers are asked to not only give up their time but also fundraise and pay for the volunteer expenses for the upcoming project.
I am personally so excited to work on this project but am in need of support. The personal cost for a volunteer is just over $4000 and I am $2000 away from that reaching that goal. I don’t have much time and I would appreciate any amount donated towards my portion final of the volunteer costs.
