Play 360 Belize 2018

After 10 years working in support of people with disabilities at Life Designs, the time came for a sea change. I'm not sure what is in store for the future but currently and for the past year, I've been partially self employed cleaning houses and working another part time job at the Biology department at IU. I feel lucky to have flexibility and autonomy in my work, making it possible to pursue my passions for nature connection and dance. While taking classes at Bloomington's local nature school Wild Nature Project, I learned about this wonderful non-profit organization called Play 360 and have been accepted to participate in the Play360 playground building trip to Belize in the spring of 2018.
Play360, an education nonprofit, provides playgrounds, educational resources, and training around the world through hands-on interactive experiences. In addition to providing a much needed playground for a local school, we will be training local community members to build their own educational playground and classroom resources.
Play is important for brain development and engaging the imagination. Imagination helps us find solutions to problems. In a world faced with so many problems, creating play environments for children can improve their lives and the lives of those they touch. *Insert Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" here (I love that song!)*
If I am able to fundraise $1700, I will travel to Biscayne Village, Belize to work with local community members and promote a mindset of innovation, self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship rather than dependency and aid.
I relish the opportunity to engage with my fellow participants as we explore this part of Belize. Play can connect us to one another and to ourselves. It can get us out of unhealthy patterns and into our senses. Having experienced the power of play in my life, I want to contribute in this meaningful way while experiencing a new-to-me culture. This will only happen if I can raise the fundraising commitment.

It is both humbling and exciting to participate with Play360. The opportunity for me to lead the way in social entrepreneurship begins now with preparing for this extraordinary journey.
