This is PLASTIC FREE BOY - a real life SUPERHERO! 
13 year old Arlian is a passionate, inspiring young leader determined to help school students to become global citizens of change.  

"I am deeply concerned about what my future will look like.
None of my generation will be able to experience the world the way adults are now, if we don’t act. "

"I am just a 13 year old  kid, but I make a difference. This difference has affected more than 120 000 kids and students around the world!

"So far my film has empowered more then 120 000 kids in Australia and overseas by educating them about the problems and solutions of plastic pollution, with a core message:

1.        To stop single use plastic!

Each person matters!!!"




Australian student Arlian Ecker is on a global mission to save the ocean from plastic pollution.  Since 2017, Arlian, known as 'Plastic Free Boy', has united thousands of children by sharing his inspiring and educational documentary 'Plastic Alarm' in schools internationally, showcasing the problems and solutions of plastic pollution.





He engages school children with his mission in protecting the ocean and our waterways, not only for marine animals but for future generations, by highlighting scientific facts such as micro plastic and its effects on human health. 

Arlian's ongoing film making campaign and international speaker engagements have been featured on national media, been nominated for the 'Green Globe Awards' and earned him titles such as 2019 Youth Ambassador for 'Clean Up Australia Day'. 
FINALIST for 2018 GREEN GLOBAL AWARDS  Presenter at the Save the World Eco Expo in Brisbane in September featured on ABC BTN   ABC online   Channel 10 'The Project  and various other channels. 




As a Plenary Speaker for the Sustainability of Cities and the Summit's youngest speaker, Arlian shared how he is uniting and empowering future generations by collaborating with community groups, corporations and government agencies to co-create a sustainable future.

How it all began, in Arlians words:

"It all kicked off in one moment that made me THINK, in fact QUESTION…
It happened on my 11th birthday on the beach.
I witnessed 3 rehabilitated sea turtles being released into the ocean.
I asked myself: “WHY aren’t these sea turtles not in the ocean already?”

Suddenly I woke up to a global crisis - threatening my generation’s future and future generations to come.
I learned, we have long known that plastic in landfills and oceans is a growing environmental risk.
More recently, we have come to understand that plastic is an urgent — even deadly — threat to public health, too.

Because as long as Australia does not have enough recycling facilities to take care of our own rubbish we need to be responsible for our own waste. Let’s begin with not using single use plastic any more. Use reusable straws, bags, bottles and coffee cups. 1.7 million coffee cups are used in Australia every single day and one million bottles each day.

Recent news has shown that countries in the Asia Pacific are overwhelmed with plastic waste being dumped on their land by more developed countries such as US, UK, France, Germany and Australia




Making matters worse, plastic production is increasing by 30% each year and will continue to do so, unless we change.
How do you feel when you read this? I feel terrified. When I am 42 years old, there will be more plastic in the ocean then fish. Millions of people who are dependent on fish, will not have food. They will be part of the 400 million climate refugees in the next 30 years.

This affected me massively. I thought my future would be comfortable, I go to school, I go to university, I get a job, happy wife and a happy life.

 But now that vision vanished.
I am deeply concerned about what my future will look like.
None of my generation will be able to experience the world the way you are now, if we don’t act. "

Let’s shift our education to one that makes an impact via peer to peer education education. 

We are in the progress right now with my mum to make more films, that we will funnel back to schools, almost in real time. For example our new is about how to save the Great Barrier Reef.

I AM LUCKY to have a professional film maker mum Karin Ecker (25 years experience of filmmaking for TV), who has been my teacher and coach in this journey, empowering me to speak up for what future I want to live in and offer easy solutions to the problems.



This is her filming in the Bahamas, when she produced her film 'Children of the Sea', which the Department of Education in Austria and Greenpeace Austria helped fund. She has been working on empowering young generations for 16 years. "
