Plastic Emissions Testing with LANL

Hi there! My name is Jo Stodgel, and I am the founding director of Upcycle Santa Fe , LLC in New Mexico.

Upcycle Santa Fe's mission is to develop a comprehensive plastic waste upcycling program as an alternative to landfill and detrimental recycling systems. We are working with several technologies to accomplish this, including community-driven Ecobricks , leverage-compressed plastic-bale Ubuntu-Blox , and eventually the open-source Precious Plastic machines.

Our research has shown that using plastic waste as a insulation material is the most promising way to achieve the goal of zero-plastic-waste... but there are concerns. It isn't known if upcycled plastic insulations are as safe as conventional insulations, in as far as what chemicals they emit. In response to this concern, earlier this year we applied for and were awarded a small business assistance research grant from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

For this research project we must build a dozen boxes, and fill the walls of each with a different kind of insulation (including the upcycled plastic waste insulations that we are developing). Although the lab research is covered through the grant, our time and expenses are not. We need your help to purchase materials, build the rest of the test boxes, and document our findings for the benefit of global plastic upcycling and green building practices.
