The Bombo-Sabor (Kaptagat) Users Conservation Group has been an active and productive contributor to protection and rehabilitation of the indigenous Kaptagat Forest over the past several years (I am the secretary and fundraiser of this group).
The indigenous or natural forest here is beautiful – and coming back. A little protection goes a long way and there are three areas nearby here that are under conversion back to indigenous – and thanks to our Area Chief and others, these areas are already fenced off from livestock and mostly respected.
So, the rains are here and we have 4000 beautiful indigenous tree seedlings that are ready for planting and we are asking for your support to get them planted in the next few weeks. Our indigenous tree nursery is in its sixth year and thanks to two lovely and talented local women (see picture), these seedlings have been tenderly cared for and nurtured over many years of dry seasons and monkey grazing. They are very ready to plant.!
We are seeking individuals, organizations and companies to SPONSOR A SEEDLING to help us get them planted. The costs for a seedling to be planted including the seedling itself (50kes or $0.50 USD), the labour of getting them planted (we are hiring 15 local women and 10 men for about a week), completion of gates, and experimenting with seedballs produced by a local Kenyan company (www.seedballskenya.org) since we only have 4000 ready to plant (another 6000 are coming along nicely).
Total per seedling planted: 75 Kenyan Shilling, or $0.75 USD, probably $1.00 CAD.
You can support us directly via GoFundMe, or message/email/phone me and I will give you the other options like MPesa.
Think of it as an easy and direct way of offsetting your own carbon footprint!
