Marine & Animal Conservation

Dear beloved friends, family, esteemed co-workers, and kindhearted people presently unknown to me,

I am writing to you today in hope for your help in creating the tomorrow I have long envisioned for this planet and myself. Starting on July 4th of this year, I am on my way to the Andros Island in the Bahamas. It is an island that contains around 10,000 people total, most of which are indigenous or native born to these islands. It is home to the 3rd largest Coral Reef in the world and while the Caribbean Ocean is unexplainably beautiful, I am not venturing there for a vacation by any means. I am enrolled in a worldwide Gapforce program. They do hundreds of programs all over the world that involve charity, volunteering, and survival training and environmental/animal conservation efforts. I have chosen environmental conservation for my program and eventually career. Gapforce is a charitable organization bent on an alternative way of thinking, educating and working.

The program I have already enrolled in is a twelve-week course in which we will begin by becoming PADI scuba certified. Next we will take environmental and marine science courses everyday. The purpose is to teach us all about the ecosystem, the marine life, and how to properly analyze and record the data we observe everyday we scuba dive. This leads us to the final stage of the program; making a difference. We will use our knowledge to begin rebuilding the ocean each day by removing harmful waste and rebuilding damaged or dying coral reef. We will collect data and observe the habits of the fish, invertebrates, sharks, turtles and rays in hopes of better understanding these beautiful animals and preserving their habitat. In addition, we work with the local schools and educate the Islanders about proper marine conservation and how to live sustainably on an island not much bigger than our local neighborhoods.

This is a very unique and exciting program that I have dreamed about being a part of for over a year now. It is volunteer work that is crucial for the ecosystem out there, but this program also sets the proper platforms for pursuing a career in the field of Marine Biology and Environmental Sciences, both of which I am very passionate about. So my plea to you is for a small amount of pocket change to help make my dream come true. The cost of the program is $7500, but that does not include all of the scuba equipment, travel expenses and flights. I have been working almost everyday for months to save up for this program, and I will continue to work for it until the day I leave. I have already dropped a deposit, so my position is secure. If you can offer any amount of money, I would be grateful beyond words for your assistance in pursuing my dreams. I am already immensely thankful for your consideration of assisting my cause. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you the very best!

-If you leave the world a better place than it was when you got here, then we all win.
